Single-Origin
Our sumac is foraged from the wild and is dried and cleaned by foragers from Ukhrul, a town in the state of Manipur, India.
This tangy yet splendid spice is commonly found in middle eastern households and restaurants as a staple finishing spice. The variety of sumac we have, which is known as “heimang” or “Chinese sumac” from the Manipur region, is a wild foraged shrub that has little berries on them. You might be familiar with the maroon colored powder, but don’t let this brown powder fool you. This is 100% sumac and you’ll smell and taste its tanginess right away!
Commonly used in fattoush salads and as the star of the za'atar seasoning blend, sumac mainly finds its way in vinaigrettes, dry rubs, and marinades. We are happy to source this sumac from Hill Wild who work with farmers and artisans in Ukhrul.
Ingredients: Sumac | Rhus chinensis
